Thusday night at city hall-Kitchen table talk before you hit the road?

Thursday should be interesting at O'Fallon City Hall. From 4:00 to 5:30 PM representatives from Claire McCaskill's office will be in the food court to discuss any questions or concerns of the residents. This is the first of a series of talks McCaskill's representatives will be holding throughout the state which they have dubbed "kitchen table talks." McCaskill should be familiar with O'Fallon from her time as Missouri State Auditor. McCaskill's office issued a blistering report regarding misuse of the taxpayers money during the term of former Mayor Paul Renaud. Council President Bill Hennesssy is the only remaining member who served during Renaud's tenure which ended in April of 2005.

Following the session with McCaskill's representatives a work shop is scheduled for 5:30. According to Councilman Daniel Christoff (ward 1) one of the items on the work shop agenda will be the Koch Road debacle. Apparently the city will finally provide the residents an explanation on why O'Fallon issued building permits to allow a builder to construct homes on a public road.

The former head of Community Development, Todd Criswell, had specifically warned City Administrator Bob Lowery of the reasons why building permits could not be issued. Criswell was later fired by Lowery and two days later Koch Road was torn out on a Friday night.
Several homes were built by McBride & Sons on the right away despite the company's knowledge of the road easement. McBride went forward with the sale of the houses built on Koch Road which has left the homeowners with the prospect that their homes will have to be torn out. Even if the homes remain they could not be sold because of the road easement.

Hopefully the council will do its homework before the hearing and not allow staff members to be the scapegoat for this fiasco.
