Brock Olivo, a former running back at Mizzou and then in the NFL, announced his candidacy for the 9th Congressional seat being vacated by Kenny Hulshof. Olivo's campaign got off to a rocky start when he was unable to answer some basic questions about why he was running. Things got worse for Olivo when it was revealed he has never voted. Everyone has taken a turn at making fun of Olivo but the more time I've had to think about it the more I think Olivo may be what we need in office.
Maybe Olivo's lack of experience means he won't know how to slip a provision into a lengthy bill to help a friend/contributor. Maybe being honest and admitting he doesn't have an answer is better than the patronizing, misleading answers we get from most politicians. Maybe Olivo hasn't learned how to use power to seek revenge or request special treatment. Maybe Olivo is smart enough to understand who he is supposed to be representing and whose money he is spending.
Maybe Olivio understands freezers are where we keep food, not money. Maybe Olivo understands what the "public" in public records means. Maybe Olivo knows what the definition of "is" is, what an oath means and what the difference is between public service and personal interest. And maybe Olivo knows the difference between right and wrong. If so, maybe we will be alright in sending a political newcomer to Washington because I'm not sure I like what others call "experience."

At first I thought that he was trying to make a joke out of the concept of Representative Government but I think that he might actually be sincere.
I believe Brock Olivo will not take any of the bad "experience" to Washington, unlike his counterparts. You make some good points about him and the representation he will forge for the people - honest representation unjaded by the "experience" he would have if he were a career politician like the rest. Olivo’s success due to his character is unparalleled not only in this race, but in this modern world. His work ethic, honesty, leadership, and ability to forge success have blazed a reputation that is the best among those who’s paths he’s crossed. He will do the same for the people of the ninth through his sheer determination to lead them and be the strongest voice for them in Washington. He isn’t a career politician: remember the nine scariest words: “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.” This isn’t him - which sets him apart from all the others in the race, R or D. The people will speak for him as he unites them and as they collectively move forward to further the vision of the ninth district. Olivo is only the 7th player in the history of Ole’ Mizzou to have his number retired for the intangibles, he was tapped into the exclusive secret honor society Mystical 7 for his representation of the University, and he’s got a network due to those accomplishments that spreads throughout the ninth district and the country. He is very smart and capable of the work ahead of him, and I can’t wait to join the effort! Go MIZZOU!
Come on now!!! Color me jaded but 1 day after Mr. O lands a "public" job he will have two shelves in his freezer; one for frozen pork chops and another for $100 dollar bills.
I don't know the man and I am sure there are many things about him that are "unparalleled" but there is one thing I know for sure. The corruption of politicians is unparalleled and many a person has run with good intentions. Name one that left with integrity intact.
Brock Olivo isn't a politician, and that's why he will remain the citizen's representative in Washington. He is not entrenched to any special interests now - my god, he's not even entrenched to the party politics like every other candidate running for the ninth district. His integrity and morals will remain intact in Washington. When was the last time you heard somebody running for public office ask the PEOPLE what they want, rather than strong-arming the people to conform to their already in place special interest agendas? Me either, not in a very long time, until now, that is. When I heard Brock Olivo speak and had the pleasure of shaking his hand at a recent event. What a genuine, honest guy he is. And what a genuine, honest voice he will make for the people in Washington.
